Outreach

The staff and students of the CDT are committed to the communication of science and outreach events provide opportunities for all researchers to showcase their research to non-specialist audiences and excite the general public about science.  The Catalysis CDT has been involved in several outreach events and welcome any opportunities to engage with the public.


Bath Taps in to Science – Matthew O’Neill, Jonathan Hall, Robin Groleau and Emma Freeman

Bath Taps into Science, is a week long public engagement event held across University of Bath and Bath city centre. The event is targeted specifically at school children to experience ‘hands on’ science.  Primary School Potionsred-cabbage-acidbase-homeschool-funred-cabbage-acidbase-homeschool-fun

This outreach event is aimed at primary school children, either bringing them into Cardiff University, or taking the science to them in school. This event is aimed at younger children. Based on Harry Potter, the children ‘make potions’ using non dangerous chemicals in a fun environment, using detergent, and cabbage water.  This is an extremely popular event which we have many requests for.


 OpenLabs

An outreach event hosted by the University of Bristol which opens it labs to older school children for more serious days in the labs, encouraging them to consider Chemistry and STEM subjects in general.


Science and the Assembly

Outreach activities designed to foster close relations with the National Assembly and the Welsh Government, Science and the Assembly is organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, on behalf of, and in cooperation with, the Welsh science and engineering community.
