Programme

The CDT in Catalysis provides a comprehensive four year doctoral training programme (1 year MRes and 3 year PhD) in catalysis between Bath, Bristol and Cardiff Universities.

The programme begins with an initial intensive four-month bespoke taught programme. It includes lecture and workshop-based teaching from world-leading experts, experimental training and industrial engagement, together with project work and transferable skills training.Symposium 021_shrunk

Research skills are developed through a six-month placement in the laboratory with nominated supervisors in two of the three universities before moving onto the extended project leading into PhD research in Years 2-4. Your research will have both industrial and academic contribution and will involve travel and working in either an international lab or an industrial setting.

The CDT has strong industrial connections that enable the delivery of a wide range of enrichment activities.

These activities include:

  • Delivery of MRes programme
  • Workshops
  • Seminars
  • Presenting at the annual conference
  • Site visits
  • Hosting students
  • Commercialisation and entrepreneurship training

Each cohort is allocated an industrial mentor who will be an advisor and industrial contact throughout the 4 year programme.

The CDT has funding for more than 70 PhD students and welcomed its first cohort in September 2014.
